Florence Qiang
After noticing the derogatory way many people speak about individuals with developmental disabilities, and recognizing the lack of understanding surrounding their challenges, I felt compelled to take action. When Lens of Youth (LOY) was looking to support a cause, I proposed focusing on developmental disabilities. Serving the board and as the Business Manager, I aim to cultivate a more informed and compassionate perspective through our community involvement, reducing ignorance on this topic. In addition to my work with LOY, I enjoy dancing and playing the viola, and I’m also passionate about video games.

I believe that photography has the power to connect people, convey powerful messages, and create lasting memories. My passion for photography aligns perfectly with LOY’s mission, as the Lead Photographer, my work reflects care and respect for individuals affected by developmental disabilities. To me, every life is a celebration, and we are all here to support each other in living our best lives. Beyond photography, I express my creativity through playing the violin and creating art in various forms. I am also a yogi.

I’m a middle school student, and I’m passionate about making a positive difference. Through our work at LOY, I want to help people with disabilities share their stories and have their voices heard. Promoting diversity and inclusion is really important to me, and I believe that by working together, we can make the world a better and more understanding place for everyone.

As the Purchasing Lead and a passionate volunteer with Lens of Youth, I am committed to using photography to tell the unique stories of people with developmental disabilities. Through this powerful visual medium, I help raise awareness, foster empathy, and showcase the strength and individuality of each person. In my role, I ensure that we have the necessary resources to support our mission and create impactful narratives that inspire and empower. In my free time, I enjoy creating artwork, playing the violin, and listening to music—especially Keshi and Wave to Earth.

My interest in photography led me on my journey with Lens of Youth. Starting from taking photography lessons, and enjoying the progress in not just my skill, but the expressions of my loved ones. They appreciated the consideration and attentiveness I gave to taking their photos, be it candid shots, or more staged photos. I wish to continue learning about photography, and to also bring this joy to families and their loved ones. For me, capturing people living in the moment or enjoying their passion with unbridled excitement is a reward in itself. I have many passions myself, such as reading, drawing, and fencing. In my spare time, I also like to play games and enjoy music.

Photography has always been my passion, not just as an art form but as a way to share stories and capture powerful moments. Starting Lens of Youth from the ground up with like-minded friends has been an incredibly rewarding journey for me. It’s inspiring to see how we’ve grown and how our mission of empowering families affected by developmental disabilities continues to touch lives. I believe in the strength of youth voices, and through photography, we can make those voices even stronger. When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll find me learning Spanish, diving into robotics, or drawing—always exploring new ways to express creativity.
